Best-of-breed quality framework
Our commitment to the highest standards
We know it is crucial we prove our excellence, not just claim it. That’s why we have achieved the highest accreditations in the UK payroll world – and done so on a timeline the sector had never seen before.
Ascend was founded in 2024 with a deliberate ambition to build a managed payroll bureau with quality at the centre of its design from day one. By March 2026, within our first 18 months of trading, we achieved triple ISO certification and CIPP Payroll Assurance Scheme accreditation. A goal most bureaus pursue over years, if at all.
The CIPP Payroll Assurance Scheme
The CIPP Payroll Assurance Scheme (PAS) is the gold standard of payroll accreditation. Achieving it involves rigorous, independent assessment of everything that underpins how we run payroll for our clients, including our processes, our people, our compliance frameworks and our commitment to continuous improvement.
In March 2026, Ascend achieved PAS accreditation with a clean sweep across all 23 subject areas at the first assessment.

Three international standards
We’ve also achieved three international quality and data security standards.
ISO 9001 – Quality Management
This is the ultimate mark of quality management across our processes, documentation and systems. For payroll, this means you have peace of mind that when you submit your payroll data to us, it will go through the same tested, verified and checked process every single time.
ISO 27001 – Information Security
Your data is personal and sensitive. This international standard for information security means we understand the importance of protecting it and have everything in place to ensure that happens.
ISO 27701 – the privacy framework
This is an extension of ISO 27001 and focuses specifically on privacy information management. Whereas you may find other providers with ISO 9001 and ISO 27001, few hold this standard. ISO 27701 requires organisations to embed privacy into their operations at every level and implement the full technical and organisational requirements of UK GDPR.
How the framework works in practice
The Quality Framework is one integrated management system – not four separate accreditations running in parallel.
ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 27701 and PAS are built around a single set of policies, a unified risk register, one audit cycle and one management review process. That integration is what makes the framework robust rather than just documented.
Every stage of the client journey sits within it. From first enquiry through to post-go-live review, there is Director-level involvement and accountability at every touchpoint and a structured programme (Achieving Excellence) that governs how we onboard and support clients.
Our goal is simple
We are driven to hit these high standards and provide real proof of our commitment to our clients and team. By securing these certifications, we build a strong foundation of trust and set a continuous benchmark for our performance.
Our goal is for continuous improvement. Although we are proud of what we have already achieved, we are aiming high with our pursuit of B Corp certification to demonstrate our commitment to social and environmental responsibility, transparency, and accountability.
This approach isn’t just about fitting in – it’s about leading. We’re here to be more than just players in our industry; we’re setting the bar for success and responsibility.
“If you don’t have watertight systems and processes in place, mistakes and poor service are inevitable. After years of working in payroll as Operations Director, I know how important it is to establish best practice processes.
This is non-negotiable at Ascend, and from day one, we work to the highest levels of compliance standards and frameworks.”
